Opportunity works, lives, and plays in San Bernardino County. On Saturday night, San Bernardino native and Cajon High School alumnus Jayden Daniels showed that opportunity also wins here when he claimed the Heisman Trophy as America’s top college football player.

“San Bernardino County is incredibly proud of Jayden Daniels,” said Board of Supervisors Chair and Third District Supervisor Dawn Rowe. “Through talent, perseverance, and his accomplishments on the national stage, Jayden embodies all that is possible for those who live and invest in America’s largest county.”

Last week, San Bernardino County joined the City of San Bernardino in launching a countywide billboard campaign congratulating Daniels upon becoming a Heisman finalist. The campaign, now recognizing him as a Heisman winner, will continue throughout December.

“Your hard work and dedication are an inspiration to us all. We are immensely proud of you!” said Supervisor Joe Baca, Jr., whose Fifth District is home to Cajon High School.

A senior quarterback at Louisiana State University, Daniels, 22, is the 89th winner of the fabled Heisman Memorial Trophy following a 2023 senior season in which he also won the Walter Camp Player of the Year and Davey O’Brien National Quarterback Awards.

Daniels’ passer rating of 208.01 is a Heisman best and his 4,946 total yards is tied for the third-most by a Heisman winner. His 50 total touchdowns are the seventh most in Heisman history and his 3,812 passing yards is 12th most.

Daniels was a four-star recruit out of Cajon High School. He was ranked number two in the nation for dual-threat quarterbacks, meaning he can menace his opponents with both his throwing arm and his running abilities.

“Congratulations to Jayden Daniels on winning the Heisman Trophy! His talent and hard work have truly set him apart. Jayden is proof that greatness comes out of San Bernardino County. He is a great example for our future generations,” said Second District Supervisor Jesse Armendarez.

Pro Football Focus ranks him as the fourth-best quarterback in the 2024 NFL Draft behind USC’s Caleb Williams, North Carolina’s Drake Maye, and Oregon’s Bo Nix.

“Jayden Daniels has been an electric athlete from his days at Cajon High School, ASU, and now LSU. His Heisman Trophy is well deserved, and all of San Bernardino County will be pulling for him during the NFL draft next April,” said Board of Supervisors Vice Chairman and First District Supervisor Col. Paul Cook (Ret.).
