Olivia McCartney, a Junior at Grand Terrace High School, has made her mark as a dedicated member of the Titan Pep Squad. At 16 years old with a 3.5 GPA, Olivia balances academics with her passion for cheerleading while bringing confidence, athleticism, and strong Titan Spirit to everything she does.
Cheerleading has been a major part of Olivia’s life, giving her the opportunity to grow as both an athlete and a person. What she loves most about the sport is the connection she has built with her teammates.
“What I love most about cheerleading is being part of a team and creating close relationships with the people around me.”
Olivia performs as both a back spot and tumbler and is one of only four tumblers on her team. Her dedication has helped her reach several milestones, including making Varsity as a Freshman and earning second place at USA Nationals during her Freshman year.
“It was such an exciting moment because all of our hard work throughout the season paid off,” Olivia said.
Her success extends beyond cheer. Olivia finished her Sophomore year with straight A’s, proving that her commitment to academics is just as strong as her dedication to athletics. She works hard to stay ahead of her schoolwork and maintains open communication with both her teachers and coaches.
Through cheerleading, Olivia has developed skills that she carries with her every day.
“Cheerleading has taught me communication and confidence. It has helped me learn how to work with others, trust my teammates, speak up when needed, and become more confident in myself.”
Olivia credits her parents, grandfather, and coaches for helping shape the athlete and person she is today. Their encouragement has motivated her to continue working hard and pushing herself.
For younger students considering cheerleading, Olivia encourages them to take the chance and challenge themselves.
“Do not be afraid to try something new or challenge yourself because you might end up finding something you truly love.”
Her motto, “YOLO” which means, You Only Live Once, reflects her approach to life. Olivia believes in enjoying the moment and not allowing small obstacles to keep her from doing what makes her happy.
After high school, Olivia hopes to attend a college near the beach and pursue a career in the medical field where she can help others.
For Olivia, cheerleading has provided much more than athletic accomplishments. It has given her friendships, confidence, forever memories, and lessons that she will carry with her into the future.
As she continues her journey, Olivia remains focused on making the most of every practice, performance, and opportunity.
Olivia is a wonderful example of the dedication, confidence, and heart it takes to be a true student-athlete. I am proud to celebrate Olivia and all that she brings to be a Lady Titan & not only as an athlete, but as an inspiring young woman who continues to give her best in everything she does. The best is yet to come for her.
