Cake Bake Off Has Sweet Treats

The second annual Take the Cake Bake Off gathered hundreds of community members at the sold-out event. All attendees received a reusable event bag, an event t-shirt, 12 tasting vouchers, a cupcake container, and various coupons for sweet treats. Over 75 bakers presented their baked goods with an inviting decorative booth that displayed all of their sweet treats including a variety of cakes, cupcakes, cookies, and cake pops. Attendees picked and chose which treats they wanted to try by visiting various booths; all they had to do was place their tasting voucher in a bucket that each booth provided and pick whichever treat they wanted. Although each ticket came with a limited amount of tasting vouchers, vouchers were available to purchase at the event. Colton resident Jeanette Reynosa brought her daughter Gina to last year’s event and had a blast. “We came to the first event they had and we loved it,” she said. “I had to bring the rest of my family along so they could see what it’s all about.” This year Jeanette brought her nieces Brianna Moreno, Jennie Chavez and her sister Kathleen Moreno with her. “This is my first year and we are already loving it. All the treats are so good and we are just having so much fun together,” Kathleen Moreno said. Brianna, Moreno’s daughter added, “we didn’t know how popular this event was; I can see why so many people come to this. It’s so much fun.” All the proceeds from the event, through the Cakewalk Cares program, go directly to benefit local schools and to end childhood hunger, specifically the “Share our Strength, No Kid Hungry” Campaign. The judges of this year’s event included: Rebecca and Christy Grammer from Food Network and two-time Cupcake Wars Winners, Chef Cliff Young from Coachella Valley Insider TV Program, Greg Skipper, Vice President of Fat Daddio’s, Charity Pykles-George, of TLC’s Ultimate Cake Off and Foo0d Network’s Cake Wars and Halloween Wars, Ro Zinniger from Food Network’s Family Style Show and TLC’s Fabulous Cakes Show, Chef Ryan Berk, Owner of la Minute Hand Crafted Ice Cream and Parliament Chocolate, Heather Paul from Sugarbird Desserts, and also a fan judge. The judging and scoring will rubric state that 30% was based on taste, 50% was based on edible entry presentation and decoration and the last 20 percent was based on booth decoration.
