Bloomington residents gathered at Ayala Park on Tuesday, Aug. 4, for a ribbon cutting ceremony celebrating new improvements designed to enhance accessibility, safety and comfort for children and families.
Funded by Board of Supervisors Fifth District Supervisor Joe Baca, Jr., the improvements include a new inclusive swing set designed for children of all abilities, new rubber safety surfacing and a shade sail at the playground. Together, the upgrades support more inclusive play, improve safety and provide additional protection from the sun.
Eight new picnic shade structures were also installed over picnic tables and BBQ areas. The structures feature durable metal framing with wood accents, creating additional shaded gathering spaces and making picnicking and BBQ areas more comfortable throughout the year.
The ribbon cutting was held during Bloomington’s fourth annual National Night Out, allowing residents to celebrate the park improvements while also taking part in an evening focused on community connection and neighborhood pride.
The event brought families together with representatives from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department, County Fire and more than 30 local community and government agencies. Vendors shared information and resources, while families enjoyed food, sweet treats and unique goods.
The Bloomington Recreation and Parks Department provided entertainment and activities for attendees of all ages. Families also enjoyed the new splash pad, a live band and a new large LED screen that added to the evening’s entertainment and atmosphere.
National Night Out is a nationwide campaign held on the first Tuesday in August that strengthens relationships between law enforcement and the communities they serve while encouraging stronger neighborhood connections. The evening highlighted both the continued investment in Ayala Park and the strong sense of community that makes Bloomington a welcoming place for families and neighbors to gather.
