RPD Ceremony Welcomes New Hires, Newly Promoted Officers

The Redlands Police Department recently held a ceremony to swear in nine newly hired police officers, six newly hired professional staff and eight newly promoted police officers. The ceremony was held at 9 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 23, at the Redlands Police Annex. Promotions included: Sgt. Andy Capps – Sgt. Capps graduated from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Academy in 1992 and has a Bachelor’s degree from SIU-Carbondale. He was hired by the Redlands Police Department in 2000 after working for Rialto Police. Sgt. Capps has worked in patrol and in the department’s Multiple Enforcement Team as well as serving as a Field Training Officer. He was promoted to corporal/detective in 2007 and was assigned to the department’s Investigation Services Bureau in 2009 as a detective assigned to the Special Victims Unit. He rotated back to patrol this year. Sgt. Dominick Povero – Sgt. Povero was hired as a police officer in 2005. He has worked assignments in the Patrol and Investigations bureaus and the Multiple Enforcement Team. He was promoted to corporal/detective in 2012 and most recently was assigned as a detective investigating crimes against persons. Following his promotion to sergeant in July, he was assigned as a patrol sergeant. Sgt. Tony Ortiz – Sgt. Ortiz was hired by the Redlands Police Department in 1999 as a patrol officer. He was later selected to work on the Multiple Enforcement Team and as a narcotics investigator. He was promoted to corporal/detective in 2010 and worked as a detective in the Property Crimes Unit and as a patrol corporal. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree from CSU Long Beach and a Master’s degree from the University of Redlands. Cpl. Kyle Alexander – Cpl. Alexander was hired by the Redlands Police Department in 2006 and graduated that year from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Academy. Cpl. Kelli Bishop – Cpl. Bishop started her career in law enforcement in 1994 as a Police Explorer for the Chino Police Department. She was hired as a police recruit in 2000 and graduated from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Academy that same year. She was hired by the RPD in January 2005. She has worked as a patrol officer, narcotics officer on the East Valley Street Enforcement Team, a task force officer for the Drug Enforcement Administration, a Field Training Officer and Explorer Advisor. She was promoted to corporal in July. Cpl. Wil Goff – Cpl. Goff graduated from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Academy in 2008 and was hired by the Redlands Police Department. A former NCAA All-American football player for the University of Redlands, he has enhanced the department’s Cops N’ Jocks program as a full-time volunteer football coach at Redlands High School. He created and implemented the department’s Probation Re-entry and Rehabilitation Program. He has worked on the RPD Multiple Enforcement Team and Special Weapons and Tactics team. Cpl. Justin Jimenez – Cpl. Jimenez began volunteering with the Redlands Police Department in 1989 as a Police Explorer and was later hired as an ID Tech Intern, Parking Enforcement Officer and volunteered as a Police Reserve. He was later hired as a police officer and graduated from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department Academy in 1997 and has been a police officer for the past 18 years. Cpl Jimenez specializes in traffic enforcement and traffic collision investigations. He served as a Field Training Officer and Air Support Unit Manager/Observer before his promotion in June. He has an associates degree in business administration from Crafton Hills College, a bachelors degree in sociology from UC Riverside and a masters degree in management from the University of Redlands. Cpl. Patrick Leivas – Cpl. Leivas was hired by the Redlands Police Department in 2005 and graduated from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Academy in June 2006. He has worked assignments in patrol, investigations, as a narcotics officer on the East Valley Street Enforcement Team, as a cross-sworn federal task officer with the DEA and as a Field Training Officer. In 2007 he received the MADD California Hero award; in 2008, the MADD San Bernardino County award; in 2009, the Redlands Safety Employee of the Year award; in 2011, a commendation from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department; in 2012, the Redlands Police Department Chief’s commendation and commendations from the DEA and the United States Attorney’s Office. He received a bachelors degree in criminal justice from Cal State, San Bernardino and is currently working on his masters degree in business management at the University of Redlands, with a graduation date of December 2014. Cpl. Daniel Sardegna – Cpl. Sardegna joined the Redlands Police Department as a cadet in 2005. In 2008 he graduated from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Academy. After a year on patrol with the RPD he was selected for the Multiple Enforcement Team where he served as a gang officer and SWAT operator. After three years on MET he was rotated back to patrol where he served as a Field Training Officer. After a short time on patrol he was selected as a narcotics investigator for the East Valley Street Enforcement Team until his promotion to corporal in July when he returned to the Multiple Enforcement Team. He has an associates degree from Crafton Hills College and a bachelors degree in sociology from Cal State, San Bernardino. Newly hired professional staff include: • Timothy Edson, Part-time Community Service Officer • Kim Howard, Community Service Officer • Brytney Nelson, Dispatcher • Meghan Nielson, Part-time time Police ID Technician Trainee • Michael Nottingham, Community Service Officer • Stacy Serna, Part-time Camera Operator Newly hired officers include: • Matthew Friesen • Jeff Frisch • Henry Gomez • Martin Gonzalez • Curtis Hankins • Andrew Honeycutt • Jonathan Manly • Albert Ramirez • Mazi Shahabi
