The City of Redlands, the San Bernardino County Department of Public Health and Plymouth Village will provide a free flu shot clinic at the City of Redlands Point of Dispensing (POD) site at Plymouth Village, located at 900 Salem Drive, from 4 to 6 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 1. The County of San Bernardino, Department of Public Health, Preparedness and Response Program encourages residents to get their flu shot and discover the local Point of Dispensing (POD) site. A POD site is a location where the community would go to receive medication and or vaccinations during a public health emergency, such as pandemic influenza or bioterrorism. Flu shots will be provided to adults and children 3 years old and older. A parent or guardian must accompany children under 18. Children under 9 years old may require two doses of the flu vaccine, four weeks apart based on prior vaccination history. FluMist intranasal vaccine will be provided to healthy persons from ages two to 49, including women who are not pregnant. The flu is an illness caused by influenza viruses and is easily spread from one person to another. Symptoms can range from mild to severe and can lead to hospitalization and even death. In addition to getting the flu vaccine, prevent the spread of illness by following these steps: -Cough or sneeze into your elbow or a tissue and properly dispose of used tissues -Avoid touching your eyes, nose and/or mouth -Wash your hands often with soap and water, expecially after a cough or sneeze. Alcohol-based hand sanitizers may be used if soap and water are not available -Avoid close contact with sick people and stay home when you are sick to avoid spreading illness to others. In addition to providing free flu vaccines to the community, the clinic is designed as a learning environment for the County and City to exercise plans and procedures for a local pandemic influenza response. For more information, contact the San Bernardino County Department of Public Health at 1-800-782-4264 or go online to www.sbcounty.gov/dph/publichealth.
