On Dec. 5, Redlands Memorial Chapel held an event to kick off the holidays. The Feast of Lights is a worship service that is served through the spoken word, song and instrumental offerings which celebrates the birth of the Messiah. This is the 67th Feast of Light. The ceremony started with a prelude that welcomed its guests into the Christmas decoration-themed chapel. There were ornaments hanging from the walls and an angel stood in the middle of the stage. A band with violins, an organ, trumpets, harp, and other instruments played “Fantasy and Chorale.” The choir was later introduced and the lights dimmed. After the first song, the minister started to present as the audience followed along. Members of the audience attended the event to start the holiday by celebrating the birth of the Messiah and support the school. Rick Miles has been coming to this event for the past ten years and says this is how he always starts his Christmas holiday. Miles even brought a few of his friends along, Judy Barbo and Partain and Deborah Meddos. Students from Redlands University also attended the event. Meredith Carruth and Evans Sanford both agreed, “This is such a beautiful tradition of the school and we are happy to be part of it.” Professors also took part in this event. Professor Jayakaran Job decided to take some time to support his school and celebrate the start of Christmas. Although this is his first year, Job was glad he came and described the event as “inspiring and wonderful.”
