City to Begin Work on 60-day Sewer Replacement Project

The City of Redlands is set to begin an $867,909 sewer replacement and repair project scheduled to begin this month with completion in early April. The City Council awarded the contract to SND Construction, out of Arcadia, on Jan. 21, 2014, to repair or replace more than 15,500 linear feet of sewer pipeline. More than 11,500 linear feet of pipeline will be repaired using a “slip lining” technique that repairs the pipe in place without requiring street cuts. Residents will be notified of the work seven days prior to the start of construction. Parking restrictions will be in place and minor traffic delays may occur but residents will have access to their properties at all times. During construction residents may be asked to avoid using their water for up to eight hours to avoid a sewer backup that could flood their homes. Residents may also notice a plastic- or glue-like odor as the material used to line the sewer pipes cures. The odor is not harmful and will dissipate. In order to avoid this, prior to the date of work residents should pour a gallon of water into each floor drain or any rarely used sinks, tubs or toilets to ensure that a water barrier is maintained in the home’s sewer trap. The following streets are scheduled for sewer repair and replacement: • Palm Avenue between San Mateo and Dana Street and a portion of Dana Street • Chestnut Avenue between San Mateo Street and an area just east of Pacific Street. • Walnut Avenue between San Jacinto and an area just east of Pacific Street • Webster Street between Brockton and Western avenues • Western Avenue between Webster and Ohio streets and between Clay and Washington streets • Ohio Street between Brockton and Western avenues • Columbia Street between Brockton and Western avenues • Brockton Avenue from an area west of 6th Street to an area east of Post Street • Cimarron Drive between Palm and Highland streets • Cimarron Court • Dracena Court • Evergreen Court from Everron Court east • Lemon Street • Lime Street • Monticello Court at South Avenue • Franklin Avenue between South Avenue and Sunridge Way • South Avenue at Ford Street • Alley between Lemon and Lime streets • Alley south of Cypress Avenue between Harding Drive and Garfield Way • Fern Avenue just east of San Jacinto Street Work on manholes will also be performed on: • Grove Street near Clock, Campus, Colton and College streets • Eureka Street north of Cypress Avenue • San Mateo Street north of Olive Avenue • Alley north of San Bernardino Avenue between Webster and Ohio streets Funding for this project is paid from wastewater rates. For further information, contact the following City staff liaison: Construction Manager: Cal Davis, (909) 798-7585, ext. 2 Additional information can be found on the City website at http://www.ci.redlands.ca.us/ This project is being performed in coordination with the City’s comprehensive PARIS street resurfacing project. In most areas, the sewer replacement project will be followed by street rehabilitation work as part of the PARIS project. This coordination is done to ensure that City infrastructure such as sewer and water pipelines are in good condition beneath streets that will be resurfaced as part of PARIS.
