Middle School Students Attended STEMapalooza Student Conference

Ten middle schools from San Bernardino County attended the STEMapalooza Student Conference on Friday, May 1. The event was held at San Bernardino Valley College beginning at 8:30 a.m. More than 400 seventh-grade students participated in the event, which featured special guest speakers Bobby Ram, managing director at SunPower, a Silicon Valley pioneer. Science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) career fields are in high demand. Students spent the day visiting interactive and engaging in exhibits that demonstrating the importance of STEM. Exhibitors include: Air Quality Management District; Valley College Aeronautics, Auto Tech and Collision, Diesel, Electronics and Machine Trades programs; Cal Baptist University Engineering; Crafton Hills College; Explore Microscopy; Healthy California; Hillwig-Goodrow Surveying; International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers in San Bernardino; Inland Coalition; Lakeview Middle Robotics; Operating Engineers; RoboKong; County Sheriff’s Department; SIGMAnet; Tomorrow’s Teachers of Science and Math; Vocademy; and Women in Construction. Participating schools – and their districts -- include: ·Big Bear Middle, Bear Valley Unified; ·Cobalt Institute for Math and Science, Victor Valley Union High School District; ·Kolb Middle, Rialto Unified; ·Moore Middle School, Redlands Unified; ·Lakeview Middle, Victor Valley Union High School District; ·Quail Valley Middle, Snowline Unified; ·Ranchero Middle, Hesperia Unified; · Townsend Junior High, Chino Valley Unified; ·Upland Junior High, Upland Unified; ·Vineyard Junior High, Ontario-Montclair. STEMapalooza is made possible with the funding from Alcoa Foundation, San Manuel Band of Mission Indians, San Bernardino Valley College STEM and the San Bernardino County Superintendent of Schools’ Alliance for Education. Educational partners teaming up with the Alliance for Education: include Chaffey College; County Schools’ Regional Occupational Program; San Bernardino Community College District; San Bernardino Valley College; and the MESA Program at University of California, Riverside.
