Former SANBAG public information officer Jane Dreher is running to lead Redlands as a city council member. A 28-year resident, Dreher said she looks to bring “good communication” to the city, both in “providing the public with information and receiving public input on topics,” which she has built her career upon, she explained. For 20 years Dreher has served in communications with various government agencies and elected officials, including her work as a public information officer for the City of Redlands, as a public information officer for the San Bernardino Associated Governments (SANBAG) and as the public information officer for a public power district. “Through these years of working in the public sector, I have been closely involved in analyzing agenda items and proposed projects,” Dreher said. “I understand the necessary steps in government and found it fascinating to watch the decision-making process evolve.” If elected, Dreher wants to help major developments come into the city, creating jobs and stabilize the economy, she said. These projects include the redevelopment of the Redlands Mall location, the Redlands Passenger Rail Project in downtown and the development of the area around Citrus Plaza. Additionally, beautification of the North Orange Street corridor is something she would like to pursue. “We should make sure that all corners of the city receive necessary and equitable attention for improvements,” Dreher said. “We should bridge any gaps that currently exist and find creative ways to fund special projects” through volunteer services, while also maintaining fire and police services. Dreher retains a bachelor’s degree in communications from the University of Nebraska in Lincoln, Nebraska, and formal education in journalism, public relations, accounting, economics and banking. Dreher’s main goal is to make sure business comes to and thrives in Redlands, she explained. “Creating economic vitality, while preserving Redlands heritage, will ensure there is an adequate tax base for responsive public safety and other services to maintain the quality of life and amenities that Redlands is known to offer.” Other candidates include incumbents Paul Foster and Jon Harrison; and candidates Paul Barich, Neil Derry, John Montgomery and Tabetha Wittenmyer.
