Learn About Bicycle Safety in Redlands

The Redlands Police Department and Ride Yourself Fit will present the 5th Annual Children’s Bicycle Health and Safety Expo Saturday, May 3, from 8 a.m. to noon at the Redlands Mall parking lot, near the intersection of West Citrus Avenue and Eureka Street. The free event will include bicycle safety and course instruction information for all ages, health and safety resources and various craft booths. Music, food, crafts and free bicycle drawings for all ages will also be held during the event. Attendees are encouraged to bring their bicycles and helmets as they will be given the opportunity to practice their safety skills in our bicycle safety course. Some participating agencies include Redlands Community Hospital, Cyclery USA, Don’s Bicycles, Friends of the A.K. Smiley Public Library, Girl Scouts of San Gorgonio Council, Redlands Boys and Girls Club, Second Baptist Church Redlands and Music Changing Lives. Redlands Police Motor and Bicycle Officers will be present in uniform and teaching children bicycle safety. Bicycle licenses, registration and fingerprinting will also be provided by Redlands Police Department volunteers. A family ride from Sylvan Park, sponsored by Ride Yourself Fit, will be held at noon on Sunday, May 4. The free ride will be at an easy pace. All riders MUST wear approved helmets and closed toed shoes. Ride Yourself Fit members will assist families during the ride. All non-RYF members (adults and the parent/ guardian of each child) will be required to sign a consent and waiver before each ride. Parents are encouraged but not required to participate in the ride. Ride Yourself Fit is a family-friendly cycling club which is open to all. The club is focused on fun, fitness and fellowship. Beginning to advanced riders will find what they need to start or improve their riding on Saturday morning rides. You will also find other events such as Walk Yourself Fit and Eat Yourself Fit groups. Family rides are the first Sunday of every month, all are welcome.
