A woman was hoisted to safety after her vehicle plunged some 400 feet over the side of Sunset Drive Tuesday night.

The Redlands Fire Department and Redlands Police responded shortly before 7 p.m. to a call of a vehicle over the side on Sunset Drive near Crown Street. Fire Department crews accessed the vehicle from Sunset Drive while others made access from the bottom of the canyon off of Alessandro Road.

The driver, a 56-year-old woman, was hoisted by the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department helicopter and transported to Loma Linda University Medical Center with apparent minor injuries.

Redlands Police determined the woman had been driving under the influence of alcohol.

Redlands Fire Department press releases and other information are available on the Redlands Fire Department Facebook page at www.facebook.com/redlandsfiredepartment or on the City’s website at https://www.cityofredlands.org/fire-department.
