Kids at Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Redlands-Riverside are back at the Burrage Mansion and other places for fun activities this summer.
Since June 14, the Club has been holding day camp for school-age youth, with safety measures. The Club was open for a limited number of kids in summer 2020, but there were no outside trips.
The first week of day camp this summer, kids returned to the mansion for activities and the Burrage Buddies program. They are scheduled for trips to the mansion twice a week for indoor and outdoor activities.
“It’s not only a relief, but also a huge delight to have the Boys & Girls Club kids back again on the Burrage Mansion grounds this summer,” said Ellen Timothy, director of the Rochford Foundation-Burrage Mansion. “What a joy to have them running around on the lawns, squealing with laughter as they play games and keeping cool squirting each other with water guns and eating SnoCones.”
“I’m especially pleased that several volunteer leaders from our Burrage Buddies workshop program were available and eager to get back to teaching classes in cooking, golf, chess, ceramics, photography, art and golf – it’s fun for everyone,” she said.
Burrage Buddies volunteers include First Tee, Chef Lee Burton, and photographer Christine French.
Kids are also going bowling, and going to the movies and the beach, among other offerings. Middle school and high school Club members who finish the Club’s Healthy Relationships program get to go to Six Flags Magic Mountain.
“We’re thankful that we can give local kids the chance to have a fun, educational summer, especially after the last 14 months,” said Club senior vice president Mark Davis.
Safety measures for youth enrolled in camp include daily temperature checks, health screening questions, face coverings, and regular hand washing. Most Club program and administrative staff have been vaccinated against COVID-19.
