San Bernardino County Public Works is heading into winter with significantly improved preparedness. With the support of the Board of Supervisors, Public Works has invested in over 30 new pieces of heavy machinery, including loaders and blowers. This addition brings the department’s arsenal to more than 100 machines, ensuring a robust response to winter storms in our mountain communities.

After the February-March 2023 snowstorms, which brought unprecedented snowfall to the local mountains, Public Works quickly acted to secure the equipment needed to manage such extreme conditions, equipping operators with specialized training to optimize the performance of this enhanced fleet. This ensures quicker response times and more efficient snow removal operations, helping to keep mountain roadways clear and safe.

The expanded fleet is strategically staged across the county, allowing immediate mobilization to affected areas. This approach enables Public Works to promptly clear roads and debris, ensuring emergency vehicles can access impacted communities and residents can evacuate safely if needed.

Public Works has also been actively coordinating with partner agencies through winter preparedness meetings, ensuring a seamless, unified response to future storms.

By proactively addressing the challenges posed by severe winter weather, Public Works is safeguarding the well-being of mountain communities and enhancing the county’s overall resilience to natural disasters.
