Residents are Reminded, Fireworks are Illegal in Redlands

Summer is here and the Redlands Fire Department wants to remind everyone that all fireworks, with the exception of permitted public displays, are illegal in the City of Redlands. Violators will be subject to a $1,000 fine.

For those seeking a spectacular Fourth of July fireworks display, the University of Redlands will again host one of the largest Fourth of July celebrations in the state of California. Stadium gates open at 6 p.m. Tickets are available at the Redlands City Clerk’s Office, 35 Cajon Street, and other locations locally. The show is preceded by a full day of events in Sylvan Park. More information on times, activities and tickets is available online at https://redlandsfourthofjuly.com/.

Under the City’s municipal code, use, possession, sale, handling or storage of fireworks, including so called “safe and sane” fireworks, is prohibited. The code’s provisions do not apply to fireworks displays operating with a permit, such as the annual Fourth of July show at the University of Redlands. In addition to a fine, the Fire Department is authorized to seize, at the owner’s expense, all stocks of fireworks offered for sale, stored, held or handled in violation of code.
