“Purr-fect” Fun

In the quiet, pine-scented corners of Wrightwood, California, something magical is happening—and it’s not just the whisper of wind through the forest. A tiny nonprofit venture, affectionately dubbed the Purr Ground Arcade, has burst onto the scene, bringing together two of life’s greatest joys: retro video games and adoptable feline friends.

What started as a whimsical idea by a small collective of cat-loving enthusiasts has quickly transformed into one of the town’s most heartwarming—and wildly popular—destinations. In a village known more for its hiking trails and cabin charm than quirky attractions, the Cat Arcade has become an irresistible beacon, drawing visitors from nearby cities and even out-of-state adventurers eager to experience the one-of-a-kind venue.

The concept is simple, yet genius. Step inside and you’re instantly transported into a hand-painted wonderland, where each wall bursts with color, whimsy, and love. Local artists donated their time to transform the space into a feline fantasy filled with retro gaming nostalgia and modern-day flair. Rows of classic arcade cabinets hum with the 8-bit tunes of yesteryear, while newer consoles and indie hits keep things fresh for today’s gamers.

But it’s the real stars—the cats—that truly steal the show.

From wall to wall, the arcade is lined with cozy corners, climbing towers, and cushioned hideaways, all donated by generous supporters and cat lovers. Each space is home to a rotating crew of adoptable cats, These furry companions are more than just decoration—they’re active participants in your gaming session, curling up in your lap during a game of Mario Kart or playfully swiping at the joystick during a bout of Street Fighter.

“We wanted to create a place where people could have fun, feel joy, and connect with animals who need homes,” said one of the founders. “It’s amazing to see how many people have come out to support us—and to see how many cats have already found forever families through this.”

The arcade has quickly grown into more than just a hangout; it’s a community hub. Locals bring their families. Tourists make detours just to check it out. Gamers, animal lovers, and curious adventurers alike find themselves enchanted by the energy and purpose behind the place.

Whether you’re dropping quarters into your childhood favorites, exploring indie gaming gems, or simply lounging with a new feline friend by your side, the Purr Ground Arcade is an experience unlike any other—and one that’s doing real good.

So if you find yourself anywhere near the San Gabriel Mountains, make the trip to Wrightwood. It’s worth it—for the games, for the cats, and for the simple joy of seeing a beautiful idea come to life.

After all, where else can you beat a high score and find your new best friend in the same afternoon?
