Winter is here and the official storm season for San Bernardino County Public Works started Oct. 15 and will continue through April 15. As storms approach, Public Works, the Office of Emergency Services, law enforcement, County Fire and other internal and external agencies coordinate efforts to maximize the storm response. Public Works is staged and ready for the season with 68 pieces of storm equipment and 97 during severe weather. During storms, Public Works Operations staff works 24 hours a day to plow up to 558 miles of roads.
Public Works has created a website for everything snow-related with weather conditions, road closures, maps, links and more at https://snowinfo.sbcounty.gov/. When visiting the mountains remember to be prepared, check weather and road conditions, bring chains, pack a blanket and emergency supply kit before you leave. Law enforcement will be ticketing all winter long for illegally parked vehicles and wants to remind travelers “no snow play on the roadway.” No side-of-the-road snow play is permitted at any time and snow play needs to take place only in designated snow play areas.
After the El Dorado and Apple Fire, San Bernardino County Flood Control began working tirelessly on preparing for potential flooding in the burn scar areas. Remember to never ignore evacuation orders and to sign up for the Telephone Emergency Notification System (TENS System) to receive emergency text messages on your smartphone.
