Pomona NHRA Drag Race finals occur twice a year in February and November. For the past 18 years, Pete Petersen, automotive instructor at San Bernardino Valley College has been meeting his students at the drag races to enjoy a day of racing. The students gather at the Pomona NHRA to view the racing events that take place during these two months. However, not all students are able to afford such an event like this. It is thanks to sponsors and their generous donations that make this all possible. Sponsors such as Schumacher Racing and the U.S. Army make online courtesy tickets available. The students are able to locate these courtesy tickets through their designated instructors.

On Friday Feb. 9th, auto instructor Pete Petersen met with seven time drag racing champion, Tony Schumacher. Petersen was able to thank Schumacher for his and the U.S. Army sponsor for the courtesy tickets.  As well as the Youth and Education Services (YES) for their generous support from the 1.5 million students who have visited the race for Youthful Education Day. The Youth and Education Services Program is presented each year by the U.S. Army. It features an emphasis on the S.T.E.M. education for 2018. The YES program is proudly entering and celebrating its 30th season. This would have been a field trip that was very out of budget for most schools had it not been for the generosity of the sponsors.
