A hundred local kids and teens got a new pair of shoes for school, thanks to iHerb, a Southern California e-commerce platform that sells vitamins, nutritional supplements, and other health and wellness products both domestically and internationally.
iHerb paid for the youth to buy a pair of shoes at the Nike store in Redlands on Friday, Aug. 27. More than 80% of kids and teens who attend the Club are from low-income backgrounds, and one of their consistent needs is for shoes.
“The children enjoyed the process of making their own shoe selection and it was great to see how happy and appreciative they were,” said Maeba Renteria, Senior Human Resources Operations Manager for iHerb.
Volunteers from iHerb and the community helped each kid and teen try on and choose a pair of shoes.
“It was a rewarding experience to see the kids’ excitement during their shopping trip. The Boys & Girls Club staff is always so engaged in supporting children’s education,” said Mary Perez, Director of Human Resources Global Operations for iHerb.
“The Nike shoe shopping event was a productive event that allowed iHerb’s outreach committee and team members to renew our support of children’s education programs through the purchase of shoes and socks for 100 Boys & Girls Club students,” said Lizeth Hernandez, Distribution Center Administrator. “It was fulfilling to meet the students at the event and assist them in making their selections.”
“We’re so grateful iHerb generously met such a big need in the community,” said Club Vice President of Resource Development Kate Salvesen. “Now some of our kids who most needed a good pair of shoes have the confidence they need to go to school and do other great things.”
Bergelectric in Corona donated $2,000 for shoes, and gave the Club backpacks, school supplies and gift cards.
