Ten local karate students recently participated at the Southern California Karate Tournament. Isaiah Lopez, Noah Gonzalez, Ayden Lunn, Itzel Nuñez, Tala and Jamal Alaradah, Mohamad and Abdul Mardini, and Jacob and Josiah Ambriz participated in the Southern California Martial Arts Championships tournament on Sept. 29 in the city of Glendora.
With a good turnout, the divisions were full of students from other schools competing against each other.
“Our school is currently celebrating its first anniversary so all of our students are in the beginner brackets,” stated Sensei James Longley. “For many of the students, this was their first competition and they each gave it their all and made their instructors and parents proud.”
“At the Redlands Karate Club we teach more than sport karate; we also teach the traditional values that go along with being good members and leaders in the community as taught through discipline and dedication to the art,” said Sensei Longley.
Overall, Redlands Karate Club brought home five first place awards, five second place awards, and seven third place awards.
