SAN BERNARDINO>> San Bernardino County Assistant Sheriff Dave Williams is retired on Friday, Jan. 6, 2017, following a 32 and a half year career with the department. Williams was raised in the City of Highland where he resides today with his wife, Francine. Together they have four children; Dean, Brittany, Cory and Lindsay. Williams began his career with the Sheriff’s Department in 1984 as a Motor Pool Services Assistant. He was hired as a deputy trainee in 1986 and graduated from the 86th Academy in early 1987. Williams spent a portion of his career in the Narcotics/SWAT Division as a deputy sheriff and promoted to a detective and later returning to the division as a sergeant. Over the past ten years, Williams has had a broad range of increasingly responsible leadership roles. These include serving as the commander of both the Valley and Desert Control Centers, the Commander of the Internal Affairs Division and the Captain/Chief of Police of both Highland and Loma Linda contract cities. In 2013, he was promoted to deputy chief assigned to the department’s Desert Patrol Bureau where he was responsible for overseeing seven large patrol stations. In January of 2014, he was promoted to Assistant Sheriff overseeing operations and has remained in this position until his retirement.
