This month the City of Redlands will begin upgrading streetlights throughout the City from high-pressure sodium (HPS) fixtures to light-emitting diode (LED) fixtures as part of the City’s LED Streetlight Conversion Project.
In September 2021, the City Council approved a $1.3 million agreement with Tanko Streetlighting, Inc. Following an initial audit phase that identified the precise locations and characteristics of the City’s existing streetlights, installation of approximately 4,500 LED fixtures will begin this month. The project is expected to be completed early next year.
The project is expected to save the City of Redlands over 1,600,000 kilowatt hours and approximately $450,000 in energy costs in the first year after implementation.
In addition to significant energy and cost savings and reduced maintenance, the conversion will also improve the color and quality of light throughout the City, increasing public safety.
