With summer coming to a close, another semester is getting underway at the University of Redlands and the newest Bulldogs are arriving on campus. The Class of 2019 is comprised of 538 freshmen and 111 transfer students. At 56 percent, just over half of the incoming class is female, with male students making up 44 percent. These new students come from 35 states and 31 countries, and nearly 40 percent of the students are among the first in their family to attend college. Their chosen academic interests are wide ranging and include disciplines such as psychology, business administration, pre-medicine, communicative disorders, music, biology, business management and sociology. A humanitarian spirit is also readily apparent among Redlands’ incoming freshman class, with students engaging in causes such as facilitating a multi-ethnic summer school program in Bosnia, raising over $500,000 for a micro-finance loan program in Vietnam and taking care of migrant children whose parents work in the local fields. That kind of dual focus—excelling in academic pursuits and contributing positively to society—is a defining characteristic of a Redlands education. Like every class before them, the Class of 2019 now has the opportunity to explore a chosen field of study while being prepared for lifelong learning and meaningful service as global citizens. As another academic year begins, the University of Redlands extends a warm welcome to all new and returning students.
