On May 30th, 2014 an event called Movies In The Park took place on 5th St. between State St. and Redlands Blvd. According to the coordinator, Heather Smith, "this event is meant for families. It is meant to expose families to downtown areas and to provide inexpensive entertainment for the families." The City of Redlands sponsors these events to try to establish downtown gatherings in the community. It is free and open to the public. The event started out with DJ Luis Azarocoya playing games with the kids. He played different games using rubber inflatable basketballs. After the DJ games, the kids then got a chance to play pretend weather (wo)man with the permission of their parents. The kids could be featured on channel 3 or possibly get posted on the Redlands website. As it got dark, the night ended with a showing of Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 playing. If you missed the fun, there will be another showing on June 27th and they will be playing The Lego Movie.
