Girls Scouts Bring Joy Through Toys, Not Cookies

This year saw the first collaboration between the Girl Scouts of San Gorgonio Council and the Children's Fund's Annual Celebration of Giving campaign. The Girl Scouts went all around their communities to find new and unwrapped toys, then delivered them to warehouses used by Children's Fund for the event. The toys then found their way to underprivileged children throughout the area. “It was awesome that the Girl Scouts actually visited the warehouse to donate their gifts,” said Karen Blanco, marketing and public relations manager. “It gave the kids an opportunity to see first-hand how this campaign works and what a difference their donations make.” The first delivery in December netted more than 250 gifts and over 90 toys came in the second delivery. The total amount equaled 350 toys and gifts donated and delivered by the Girl Scouts. As a small thank you, hot chocolate and cookies were available for all in attendance. “The Girl Scouts of San Gorgonio look forward to future partnerships with Children’s Fund,” said Mary Moore vice president of Programs and Events. “The toy drive was a great success and a great first start to many more future projects and events with Children’s Fund.” As an added bonus, each Girl Scout who donated a toy received a badge for their vest.
