Redlands Police officers were able to persuade an armed and barricaded man to surrender on Tuesday evening, Nov. 25. Police responded to a call of a man and woman struggling for control of a gun at a home in the 1200 block of Herald Street shortly before 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 25. While police were on the way to the home, the caller reported the man was chasing the woman with a knife. When police arrived, the woman and several children had left the home and were in the driveway. As they escorted the family away from the home, officers heard a single gunshot from inside the residence. Officers established a perimeter around the home and confirmed there were no additional family members inside. As officers attempted to call the suspect out he stood at the doorway and made statements threatening officers. During the standoff additional gunshots were heard from inside the residence. Officers were able to establish telephone contact with the suspect, 39-year-old Daniel Perez, and persuaded him to surrender peacefully at about 7:15 p.m. Upon searching the home, officers located several firearms. No one was shot during the incident, but the Redlands Fire Department paramedics treated one person for injuries on scene. Perez was arrested on domestic violence and unlawful discharge of weapon charges. He was transported to West Valley Detention Center in Rancho Cucamonga. Anyone with additional information is asked to contact Redlands Police Dispatch at 909-798-7681.

A residence shows visible damage from flooding, mud and debris following severe winter storms that began Dec. 23, which brought heavy rain and debris flows to mountain and high desert communities across San Bernardino County. This week, the San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors approved recovery-related fee waivers to help eligible property owners repair and rebuild as response and long-term recovery efforts continue.

Photo Caption: Crime in San Bernardino has dropped by 30 percent or more throughout the city. One reason is that there are more officers on the streets. The Police Department’s goal is to have 350 sworn officers. Current full-time staffing is reported at 295 sworn officers and 156 professional staff.
