On Friday, December 1, during a special dedicated service, Council Member Dr.G (Dr. Luis S González) presented the CITY TALK “Community Impact Award” to the Pentecostal City Mission Church in recognition of their twenty-five years of service to Jesus Christ, the community of Colton, and the members of the church.

Led by Pastor Sharon Dyce, this thriving church was established in 1998 as a church plant from Los Angeles, which in itself was a church plant from Kingston, Jamaica. This local church not only has grown in attendance, but has been blessed with a dedicated staff, and carries a clear three-fold mission; to spread the gospel, utilize the power of healing through Jesus Christ, and take care of the entire person.  When asked about the “entire person” comment, Pastor Dyce elaborated, “We make sure our members have a place to live, clothes to wear, food to eat, and have assistance with their studies and/or vocational goals.”

Each Sunday morning at 10:00am is Sunday School followed by the regular service. Visitors are always welcome. When someone comes to visit they are always greeted with a warm welcome, a pleasant smile, and a brief introduction to some of the church leaders. No one leaves being a stranger, and often visitors return with questions. For individuals who are Spanish-speaking the church also offers a Spanish service at 3:00pm under the leadership of Rev. Alejandro Ruz.  What is interesting is that the Spanish-speaking members also participate in both the regular services and special services so that they are always connected, and have the opportunity to continuously improve their English language skills.

The church calendar includes the dates and times of all services, but highlights additional programs that are available for individuals who wish to participate. These programs include men’s studies, women’s studies, and youth activities as well as children sponsorships, a daily prayer line, weekly food distribution, and a community outreach to Tijuana, Mexico.

Pastor Dyce was the first pastor of City Mission Church, and continues to lead a dedicated staff of two assistant pastors, a Deacon Board, and an office staff with an administrator. Whenever there is a service or special event, they are always there, dressed in uniform, and ready to take care of necessary arrangements to ensure a successful event. With the continued support of their staff and the active involvement of church membership, there is no doubt that this church ministry will continue to grow. The special dedicated anniversary service was a great celebration for the entire church, and included friends, relatives and several invited guests.

The official CITY TALK recognition was presented to the church as part of the 25th anniversary service, which was attended by over 100 people. May this church continue to receive the blessings of Jesus Christ through their leadership, and their service. Congratulations to Pastor Dyce and the Pentecostal City Mission Church.

The CITY TALK “Community Impact Award” was established in 2019 to recognize the great efforts that people make to make our community, the City of Colton, a better place.  The Pentecostal City Mission Church is an excellent choice for this recognition, and truly represents the very best, in terms of service to the community, and in recognizing the intent of this award. Dr.G is a City Council Member, Founder of CITY TALK, and well-known community advocate.
