At the recent Council Meeting July. 21, Council Member Dr.G (Dr. Luis S. González) presented Usman Malik, Co-owner of AM Market, with a Business Focus Recognition Award for their successful business operation in the City of Colton. Both Usman and his brother, Ali, have been operating this busy convenient store at Washington Ave and Meadow Lane, for 11 years. Usman was joined by his wife Fareeha and his daughter Sarrinah.

As mentioned at the meeting, AM Market has quite a customer base who comes in regularly to pick up a favorite item. What is most impressive is that both Usman and Ali know what the customers want and welcomes them by name. After visiting the store, It quickly becomes very apparent that good customer relations are a strong point of this business and a major key to their success.

Before coming to California, the owners operated several businesses in Texas, including a jewelry business, a gas station, a 99c store, and then a haircut supply business that required travel to many western states, including California. After Ali Malik found himself spending much time in California, he encouraged his wife, who was working at JC Penney, to request a transfer from Texas to California. Soon, the rest of the family headed west to California.

Within a few months of a successful transfer, they found a home and a suitable location for their new store here in Colton, called AM Market. For those who are not familiar with this business name, many long-time customers still chuckle when they use the more familiar old name of Kwik-W-Mart, which is still part of the old sign still standing.

From basic items, to beverages, to snacks, to various sundries, this is a bustling convenience store that has just about anything you may need for a quick pick-up and take-out. The parking is plentiful and right in front, and the hours are 8:00am –9:30pm every day.

Both Usman and his brother Ali are to be congratulated for their 11 years of business success in Colton and we truly hope that they will continue for years to come. At the meeting,  the Colton City Council wanted to formally congratulate AM Market for their business success and recognize them with this business focus award for their hard work, great customer service, and excellent reputation; and for making a valuable contribution to our community and to our local economy
