Victoria Portilla never imagined she’d be applying for U.S. Citizenship when she came to the United States in 2003. She picked vegetables in Thermal, and took ESL classes at several adult schools, and most recently, at Redlands Adult School. Her English is much better now!

Victoria is the first student to complete the Citizenship Preparation Class at Redlands Adult School. The school started offering a Citizenship class in September one evening a week to accommodate working adults. Victoria heard about the free class and decided to take it. She was eager to prepare and wanted to make sure she would pass as the cost is $725.00 to apply.

She had to memorize 100 Government and History questions, practice her English skills, fill out the N-400, the Application for Naturalization, and practice interviewing skills. She gained knowledge and confidence in the 10-week class! She says she is happy she took the class and is now ready to continue classes to get her GED and find a job.
