Beginning the week of Aug. 10, the City of Redlands will begin work through the Caltrans Adopt-A-Highway program cleaning up freeway frontage adjacent to Interstate 10 at Sixth Street, Orange Street and Eureka Street. As part of the aesthetic improvements being constructed at these locations through the I-10 Gateway Project, the city will be clearing brush and debris, and providing landscape maintenance on the north and south freeway frontages. The cleanup project is expected to last three to four weeks. This work has been facilitated through an Adopt-A-Highway permit. In addition, as a more permanent solution to provide for the upkeep and maintenance of these areas, city staff has also been pursuing a Landscape Maintenance Agreement with Caltrans for long term maintenance rights. Funding for this project will come from proceeds from the sale of the Palmetto Grove, which were designated for the care and maintenance of open space throughout the city. No general funds will be expended for this project.
