Fire Academy Accepts Applications

YUCIPA >> Crafton Hills College in Yucaipa is accepting applications for its spring 2017 Fire Academy, which begins with a cadet orientation on Tuesday, Jan. 24. The CHC Fire Academy is a training program with an emphasis on personal safety through self-discipline, teamwork and skills development. The 16-unit Academy is completed in 15 weeks and conducted in the new Public Safety & Allied Health building on campus. This facility houses a 3-engine garage, a drill wall and training rooms. According to the CHC website, a student receiving a certificate in this field will be able to participate successfully in a culturally diverse environment; develop effective interpersonal communication skills; and solve problems and makes decisions inherent to the profession. "Completion of this certificate may lead to entry-level employment as a firefighter in the public or private sectors," the website states. Applicants must have the following prerequisites: Completion of FIRET 100 (Fire Protection Organization) or equivalent, Completion of FIRET 101 (Fire Prevention Technology) or equivalent, Current copy of EMT Certification, Completed medical clearance for firefighters and Physical Abilities Test (C-PAT or Biddle) certificate. Once an application is received, an interview with the fire academy chief will be scheduled. Applications will be accepted through Tuesday, Jan. 17, but applicants are encouraged to apply early to assure meeting all the requirements on time.
