A new website launched this week will help provide up-to-date information and opportunities for involvement to residents and others interested in the continuing process of updating the city’s General Plan. The new General Plan website at http://www.redlands2035.org/ includes a video describing the purpose of the General Plan update, provides a schedule of the update process, and upcoming meetings, project status reports, information on the consultant team and Steering Committee and a library of meeting documents and reports as well as links to other urban planning resources. In August the city began a public outreach effort as part of the General Plan update, the city’s blueprint for future housing and commercial development, open space conservation, transportation improvements and parks and trails expansion. General plans typically are updated once every 20 years. The process included formation of a General Plan Steering Committee made up of residents within various planning areas and specific interests as well as public meetings, stakeholder meetings and an online survey to gauge residents’ specific ideas on the future development of the city. The process is expected to be completed in 2017 with adoption by the city council of a new General Plan.
