Mariposa Elementary's Green Thumb

Meet Chloe Moore, Redlands Horticultural and Improvement Society’s newest and youngest member. She is a ten year old, fourth grade student at Mariposa Elementary School. The Redlands school has several different gardens ranging from a Chinese garden to gardens with a variety of flowers and shrubs. Chloe enjoys working in the school gardens, pulling weeds and keeping the gardens in good shape. RHIS School Grant Program has provided grants to Mariposa and other area schools for school gardens. At home, her favorite activity is helping her mother, Michelle, in their garden filled with colorful flowers and orchard with its fruit bearing trees. Chloe keeps the ground watered and weed free. When asked to pick which flower in her garden she likes best, her choice is a red rose. When she grows up Chloe hopes to become a gardener. Joining RHIS is her first step in reaching that goal. Chloe and other young students are an important contributing source to the goal of RHIS to “increase and enhance the beauty and attractiveness of the Redlands area, and, through its educational activities, encourage the love and practice of horticulture among its citizens, both adults and children.” We are pleased to welcome Chloe Moore to become an active RHIS member and hope to get her involved in the society’s activities.
