The City of Redlands is soliciting proposals from downtown businesses who wish to provide ongoing dining services in the newly opened Orange Street Alley. Several businesses have expressed interest, including The State restaurant, in using the alley park for activities and events, including outdoor dining. A Request for Proposal was issued Tuesday, Oct. 6 for interested businesses in the downtown district who wish to provide dining services for a period of six months. In evaluating the proposals, the city will consider marketing efforts, duration, frequency, aesthetics and amenities proposed by the businesses. Requests for one-day events, including art walks, tours, parties and receptions will be accommodated through the city’s regular park reservation form. The city also welcomes other ideas or proposals for additional uses of the park that will enhance its purpose in attracting visitors to the downtown region. While the additional ideas will not be addressed in the current Request for Proposal, they may be incorporated in future RFP cycles depending on feasibility. The Orange Street Alley park was opened in July after construction converted an alleyway running from Orange to Fifth Street, between State Street and Citrus Avenue into a public space that included new underground infrastructure, pavers, street lights, landscaping and façade enhancements. Anyone with questions regarding the proposals for outdoor dining should contact Tabitha Kevari, Sustainability Manager in the Quality of Life Department, at (909) 798-7655. For park reservations, contact the One Stop Permit Center at (909) 798-7551.
