Zac Archuleta, pro skate boarder from Orange County, recently came to Redlands for a skate demo and contest. Hosted by Zero Thread Youth Group and Sk8 Church, the evening was open for skate competition for ages 12 and under, 13 to 15 and then 16 and up. Winners received a plethora of stickers, t-shirts and skate decks donated by Banned Skate Shop. About 60 skaters came out for the contest with about 150 people in the audience. Guests were able to enjoy free hot dogs and water while the entertainment ensued. Zac Archuleta shared with the crowd his personal story of growing up with life's challenges and shares how he found hope in Jesus Christ. Now Archuleta uses his skateboarding skills to share that hope with others. "We're all about communicating the message of Jesus' love and that should come out in more ways than just words", says Youth Pastor Jason Dean of Zero Thread Youth. Reality rock rapper, NickdoG, performed songs from his CD, "Under The Cloud". Citrus Valley's Homecoming Queen, Roxie Jane, performed as well. Jane recently graduated from high school and will be pursuing her next recording this summer. Her music is available at www.roxitunes.com. Sk8 Church has open skate ramp sessions available at the Packinghouse in Redlands on Saturdays and Sundays from 6 to 8 p.m. and Wednesdays from 6 to 7 p.m. Skaters under the age of 18 will need to have a parent or legal guardian sign a waiver in person. The Packinghouse is located at 27165 San Bernardino Ave. Zero Thread High School Youth ministry meets Wednesday Nights from 7-8:30 p.m. at the Packinghouse for Bible Study, small group sessions and worship.
