The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s West Valley Search and Rescue Team is seeking volunteers to join their team. Anyone who would like to be a part of a search and rescue team dedicated to helping those who are lost or hurt in the wilderness, without the physical demands of hiking in the mountains, should apply. West Valley Search and Rescue needs members who can support mission operations, by helping out with tasks such as driving teams into the field, acting as radio relay, working in the command post, and contributing your unique talents to building our organization. The organization is a non-profit, all-volunteer search and rescue team dedicated to saving lives by providing search, rescue, emergency response, and wilderness safety education to the citizens of San Bernardino County. If you are seeking a challenging and rewarding opportunity that provides both personal growth and a way to give back to your community, then please join West Valley SAR at their upcoming recruitment presentation on Wednesday, Aug. 19 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. The presentation will take place at the MGR Building at the intersection of Haven Avenue and the I-10 freeway, 3401 Centerlake Drive, Ontario. For more information, visit www.westvalleysar.org.

A residence shows visible damage from flooding, mud and debris following severe winter storms that began Dec. 23, which brought heavy rain and debris flows to mountain and high desert communities across San Bernardino County. This week, the San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors approved recovery-related fee waivers to help eligible property owners repair and rebuild as response and long-term recovery efforts continue.

Photo Caption: Crime in San Bernardino has dropped by 30 percent or more throughout the city. One reason is that there are more officers on the streets. The Police Department’s goal is to have 350 sworn officers. Current full-time staffing is reported at 295 sworn officers and 156 professional staff.
