After putting up incredible numbers and setting three new program records in its season opener, California Baptist University has earned itself two No. 1 ratings (score vs. par and adjusted) in the West Region and NCAA Division II overall. CBU started the 2015-16 season with a victory at the Western New Mexico Fall Intercollegiate on Tuesday, Sept. 22. The Lancers shot a nine-under-par 567 over two rounds, which gives them a 283.50 average, which is 4.50 under par and a 2.98 under par adjusted rating, to start the year. Both those numbers rank atop the West Region and Division II at large, according to Golfstat, which released them Wednesday morning. Not only that, CBU's score vs. par ranks third in the NCAA overall, including Division I-III and its adjusted rating is fourth in the NCAA. "It is obviously very nice to be sitting atop the national poll, and the ladies certainly played some outstanding golf in our first event, en route to breaking several tournament and school records," Coach John Hackney said. The Lancers set a program record when it fired an eight-under 280 at the WNMU Intercollegiate on Monday, while their 567 set a two-round tournament record for CBU. True freshman Erica Wang also set an individual 18-hole record for the Lancers when she shot a five-under 67 on Tuesday. CBU will look to keep it going at the Dixie State Invitational on Oct. 5-6. "We are fortunate because our team includes eight ladies who all contribute, and they can all play and post low numbers, so our depth is as good as it has ever been," Hackney said. "Any one of the five ladies on the bus last week can be our best player on a given day."
