Blossom Grove Alzheimer’s Special Care Center hosted an Ice Cream Social for its residents on Aug. 25. Marissa Drinkhouse, Program Coordinator for Blossom Grove, planned the Ice Cream Social along with many other events including their big carnival that took place just a few weeks back. Many of the residents enjoyed their ice cream in pairs or groups and many were very friendly and eager to socialize, such as Gayle. Drinkhouse explained that Gayle was the "fashionista" in the group. “Gayle’s our stylist, she used to work for Vanity Fair.” Gayle added on explaining her many years as a sales trader and consultant representing Vanity Fair. Her job was to train employees on how to sell a new kind of fabric that was being made for clothing, synthetic fabric. Gayle mentioned how the introduction to these new synthetic fabrics “…changed our economy completely.” Another group of ladies including Winnie, Ginnie, and Eileen were all very friendly and excited to share their past careers. Winnie, who is part Irish, explained in detail the beautiful landscape of Ireland, which she visited twice. Eileen was a teacher for over forty years and mentioned, “…my favorite was middle school, the 4th, 5th, and 6th grade.” When Winnie asked Eileen if it was hard teaching middle school, Eileen replied with a laugh, “No, I kept my eyes open. I had good kids and bad kids.” Overall, many the residents seemed to enjoy themselves during the Ice Cream Social. The orange creamciscles were a perfect pairing for the sunny Redlands weather.
