Community members came out last Friday, May 1, just before the Cinco de Mayo holiday,, to see the performances of Ana Gonzales and the group Los Tremendos del Sur in the "Many Voices, Muchas Voces event, sponsored by The Redlands Community Music Association as a teaser for their upcoming shows in the “Summer Music Festival.” Bystanders were intrigued by the music playing and decided to stay and check out the event. Popular Latin-American music was played by the group, and Ana Gonzales danced Mexican folkloric dances. Along with performing for the crowd, she also encouraged them to dance and sing along, as all were given sing-along sheets. She taught steps that went along with the dances to those who were interested and everyone seemed to enjoy the festivities. Gonzales also shared with the crowd the different types of costumes worn in different parts of Mexico for the traditional dances. Valerie Peister, who was in charge of the event, shared that the community music association likes to encourage the community to learn about music and at the same time different cultures. She explained, “We want the community to get involved with the music, you know; its better when we come to them.” The event was just one of the many free events Redlands will be holding and all were encouraged to make a visit to the Redlands Bowl this summer.

A residence shows visible damage from flooding, mud and debris following severe winter storms that began Dec. 23, which brought heavy rain and debris flows to mountain and high desert communities across San Bernardino County. This week, the San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors approved recovery-related fee waivers to help eligible property owners repair and rebuild as response and long-term recovery efforts continue.

Photo Caption: Crime in San Bernardino has dropped by 30 percent or more throughout the city. One reason is that there are more officers on the streets. The Police Department’s goal is to have 350 sworn officers. Current full-time staffing is reported at 295 sworn officers and 156 professional staff.
