Now through Jan. 19, local teachers who shop at the Redlands Barnes & Noble location will receive special treats as part of the store's Educator Appreciation Days. An Appy Hour event in the Nook department will take place Jan. 18 and 19, including refreshments in the Nook department and Nook demonstrations of educational apps appropriate for the K - 12 classroom. Teachers shopping during the Educator Appreciation Days will also receive a 25 percent discount on purchases of books for both personal and classroom purposes, as well as on toys, games, CDs, DVDs and other tech items. Teachers have the chance to win a Nook Tablet, or win a $500 Barnes & Noble gift card and the chance to win an author visit for their school. Guest authors include author/illustrator Frans Vischer (author of "Fuddles"), author Adam Sidwell ("Evertaster") and author/illustrators Amy and Chris Hernandez ("Jack and the Zombie Attack"). Teachers can also learn about the 2014 My Favorite Teacher Contest, which provides middle and high school students opportunities to write an essay, poem or letter about their favorite teacher. Stores will honor their local winner at a spring event, and each local winner is entered into a regional contest, in which five winners receive a Nook and a $500 Barnes & Noble gift card. One teacher will be named from this pool of regional winners as the Barnes & Noble National Teacher of the Year, and will receive $5,000 and the title of Teacher of the Year. Barnes & Noble will also donate $5,000 to the winning teacher's school. Barnes & Noble Redlands is located at 27460 Lugonia Ave., in Citrus Plaza. Those with further questions may contac Laurie Alder, community relations manager, at 909-793-4945 ro at crm2201@bn.com.
