Residents are invited to apply for openings on several city commissions. Those interested in applying for commission seats with the Airport Advisory Board, Cultural Arts Commission, Historic and Scenic Preservation Commission and the Parks and Recreation Advisory Commission may file applications by April 13. Members are appointed by the City Council. Residents interested in applying for the non-salaried positions may request application forms from the City Manager's Office, City Hall, 35 Cajon St., Suite 200, by phone at 798-7510, or download an application on-line at www.cityofredlands.org. The Airport Advisory Board acts in an advisory capacity to the City Council in all matters pertaining to the administration, operation, development, improvement and maintenance of the Redlands Municipal Airport. The Airport Advisory Board meets on the first Wednesday of even-numbered months at 5 p.m. The Cultural Arts Commission promotes public interest in arts, recommends new arts programs and sources of funding for those programs, assists the City Council by recommending policies to encourage, develop and support the arts in Redlands, and advises the City Council in the administration of the City's "Art in Public Places" program. The Cultural Arts Commission meets bi-monthly on the second Monday of odd-numbered months at 4 p.m. The Historic and Scenic Preservation Commission promotes public interest in and understanding of historical and scenic properties and their preservation. The Historic and Scenic Preservation Commission meets on the first Thursday of each month at 6 p.m. The Parks and Recreation Advisory Commission recommends to the City Council policies for the acquisition, development, maintenance and improvement of parks, public trails and open space areas, and for the planting, care and removal of landscaping and amenities in all parks, public trails and open space areas. In addition, this commission’s duties relating to recreation include; using the Commissioners' skills, knowledge and experience to assist and advise the City Recreation Division staff; keeping the public informed about the city's recreation program; serving as a forum for the promotion of activities for the Recreation Division and the City’s community center; and serving as a forum for resident's suggestions, reactions, opinions, interests and needs regarding the City’s Recreation Division and its programs. The Parks and Recreation Advisory Commission meets bi-monthly on the second Thursday of odd-numbered months at 4 p.m.
