Join us for Ken Burns’ Yosemite: A Gathering of Spirit, a 27-minute documentary film produced to honor the 150th anniversary of the landmark federal act signed by Abraham Lincoln that preserved Yosemite Valley and the Mariposa Grove of Giant Sequoias. This act, the first time a government set aside land for public use and enjoyment, gave birth to the national park idea. The program will begin at 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, April 1, 2014, the regular monthly meeting of the Sierra Club San Gorgonio Chapter, at the San Bernardino County Museum, 2024 Orange Tree Lane, Redlands. The San Gorgonio Chapter is excited to celebrate the 150th anniversary of Yosemite with this inspirational film that brings to life an amazing time in America’s conservation history. We hope that Yosemite lovers far and wide will join us for this unique experience. The film was funded by donors, through a grant provided by Yosemite Conservancy, the only philanthropic organization dedicated exclusively to Yosemite National Park. The Yosemite film is directed and narrated by Ken Burns and written and produced by Dayton Duncan. Burns is well known for his landmark documentaries, including The Civil War and Baseball. Burns and Duncan previously collaborated to produce The National Parks: America’s Best Idea. On the same program with the Burns’ film will be the 15-minute short subject One Day in Yosemite, one of the Yosemite Nature Notes series. On June 26, 2012, thirty filmmakers spread throughout Yosemite National Park to create this portrait of the park and the people who visit and work there. All are welcome to attend the meeting. Parking and admission are free but donations are accepted for room rental. The San Bernardino County Museum is located: 2024 Orange Tree Lane, Redlands, CA 92374. Exit California Street from I-10 Freeway in Redlands. The San Gorgonio Chapter of the Sierra Club covers the geographic area of San Bernardino and Riverside Counties.
