Museum’s Bird Halls Updated with New Flooring

New flooring on the top story of the San Bernardino County Museum in Redlands is currently being installed and is expected to complete in the next two weeks. Museum Media Specialist Jennifer Reynolds said carpet was torn up in both the water and land bird halls located on the top story on Sept. 3. “[The project] is slated to complete September 16,” she said. The bird halls will be closed until the project is complete. The epoxy flooring is a solid, resilient surface that does not trap dust and matches the flooring the museum recently installed in the Hall of History on the ground story, Reynolds noted. “It’s very comfortable to walk on,” she said. “We’re doing our best to replace all the carpeting in the museum. Carpeting was hard to maintain in terms of dust, and that’s not good for the collections.” The new flooring, Reynolds said, “won’t trap dust or microscopic bugs, and the visitors will see shiny, sparkly, new and clean flooring, and we can easily keep it that way.” Gradually the museum is replacing the flooring throughout the building, Reynolds shared. “We have done, essentially, now all of our ground (story) and the upper (story) will be done in less than two weeks. That leaves the Mammal Hall on the bottom floor,” said Reynolds. The San Bernardino County Museum is located at 2024 Orange Tree Lane in Redlands.
