Two men were taken into custody Wednesday afternoon, March 4, following a vehicle burglary at a local gym. The burglary from a parked and locked vehicle at the LA Fitness gym near the intersection of Marshall Street and Parkford was reported shortly before 3:30 p.m. that day. Redlands Police and Sheriff’s Air Support helicopter 40 King quickly located two vehicles involved in the theft, according to a release issued by the City of Redlands. The release states that one of the vehicles, a red Toyota Tacoma pickup, was pulled over near the intersection of Highland Avenue and Lytle Street and the driver was taken into custody. A second vehicle, an Acura, pulled over briefly but took off as officers approached, according to the release. The Sheriff’s helicopter continued to follow the vehicle, which collided with a tree near the intersection of Center Street and Walnut Avenue. After the driver fled the vehicle, 40 King guided officers to the driver’s location and he was also taken into custody, the release states. Stolen property from the theft at LA Fitness was located in the Acura, which was also reported stolen, according to city officials. While officers were on scene, police received a report from the owner of the Toyota pickup that his vehicle had been stolen from the LA Fitness parking lot. Anyone with additional information is asked to contact Redlands Police Dispatch at 909-798-7681. Anonymous tips can be provided by texting 274637 using the keyword “REDTIP.”
