The City of Redlands was recently awarded the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting by the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada for its FY 2015-2016 Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR), the 14th consecutive year the City has been recognized with the prestigious honor.

The Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting and represents a significant achievement by the City of Redlands Management Services/Finance Department, Director Danielle Garcia and the core team members who worked with the City’s external auditors and prepared corresponding materials.

The Government Finance Officers Association established the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting Program in 1945 to encourage and assist state and local governments to go beyond the minimum requirements of generally accepted accounting principles to prepare comprehensive annual financial reports that evidence the spirit of transparency and full disclosure and then to recognize individual governments that succeed in achieving that goal.

Reports submitted to the CAFR program are reviewed by an independent panel which comprises individuals with expertise in public-sector financial reporting and includes financial statement preparers, independent auditors, academics, and other finance professionals.

The City of Redlands has been awarded the Certificate of Achievement for its comprehensive annual financial report every year since the Fiscal Year 2002-2003 CAFR.
