A 21-year-old Redlands man was killed in an early morning single-vehicle collision Monday, Oct. 9. A passenger in the vehicle suffered minor injuries.

The collision on Wabash Avenue north of 5th Street was reported shortly after 2 a.m. Redlands Police and Firefighter/Paramedics responded.

The vehicle, a Honda Civic, was traveling north on Wabash at a high rate of speed and failed to stop at the stop sign at 5th Street. The vehicle became briefly airborne and the driver lost control, hitting a curb, a tree and a fire hydrant before coming to rest. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene of the collision. The male passenger, also 21, suffered minor injuries and refused treatment.

Investigators are working to determine the cause of the crash and whether drugs or alcohol may have been a factor.
