MORENO VALLEY>> The City of Moreno Valley will be the focal point for a two-day event Sept. 16 and 17 as the Moreno Cultural Arts Foundation hosts its first annual Boundaries BashFest ’16 in an effort to redefine the perception of disabilities. BashFest is a combination of a free live concert, panel discussion, workshops and art exhibition on Sept. 17 starting at noon at the Stoneridge Towne Centre off Eucalyptus Avenue in Moreno Valley. BashFest will feature a number of incredible performers including Rachel Flowers, a blind keyboard virtuoso, Infinite Flow Wheelchair Dance Company, Grupo Folklorico Xhanat, the Adam Henry Band, ASL Cabaret, Joel Gaines, J Mike and Friends and the deaf hip hop phenom, Sean Forbes along with a number of other great performers. There will be a panel discussion at 1 p.m., Sept. 17 at the Vanguard Art Gallery, located at 27120 Eucalyptus Avenue, Suite G, Moreno Valley, CA 92555. The discussion will be moderated by LA Live Talk Radio host, Sheena Metal and several of the performers will be participating. On Sept. 16, Ryan Commerson, deaf film director of Beyond Inclusion starring Nyles Demarco will be presenting his film and hold a Q&A session at the Canyon Springs High School. That evening, a Meet and Greet Fundraiser at the Vanguard Art Gallery will be held complete with red carpet where people attending will get the full treatment of interviews, photos and can meet the performers along with dance to a DJ. The Meet and Greet promises to be a fun event and tickets are $25 and can be purchased on Eventbrite, Eventful, or on the website, http://www.boundariesbashfest.org or purchased at the door. MVCAF received a Challenge America Grant from the National Endowment for the Arts along with a matching grant from the Moreno Valley Unified School District. MVUSD has been a partner in helping bring this event to fruition. Eastern Municipal Water District, Inland Empire Health Plan, Edison International, Waste Management and Bridge Investment Group have provide support as sponsors. “I am extremely pleased by the response we have received both from the creative community and the communities that represent the disabled,” said Richard L. F. Archer, Sr., President of MVCAF and creator of this event. “BashFest is designed to educate, entertain and empower, and we are confident that anyone attending will be treated to a great experience.” Guests attending the event on Sept. 17 are asked to bring a non-perishable food item to donate for the local Salvation Army food bank. Guests are also encouraged to bring beach chairs but beach umbrellas and EZ Ups will not be allowed since the event is being staged in the Stoneridge parking lot.
