A selection of new and gently used designer purses will be offered for sale at this year’s Purse Party, which will benefit the Redlands Symphony’s music education program for kids and seasonal concerts. This year's event will be held Thursday, March 5. “This year’s Purse Party will be even bigger and better than last year’s,” said Ann Bryan, an event organizer. “We had such a tremendous response last year that we’re doing it again and turning up the heat with more purses, more food and a couple of surprises. It’s a fun time that benefits the Symphony’s music education programs for kids and our regular concert season.” Members of the organizing committee include Ann Bryan, Kristin Hopkins, Mary Carruthers, Jill Jordan, Nancy Spencer, Marilyn Solter, Margie Orland, Nancy Aplin and Kristin Pierce. Members of the recently organized Friends of Redlands Symphony will be providing volunteers for the event. “We’re busy organizing dozens and dozens of purses that have come in as donations and many more that are brand new,” explained Kristin Pierce, who is working on both the silent and live auctions. “We have designers such as Kate Spade, Tory Burch, Michael Kors, Ralph Lauren, Dolce & Gabana and Furla represented in the collection, among many others. There will be lots of extraordinary purses to choose from.” The Redlands Symphony Purse Party starts at 5 p.m. and will be held at the home of Jill and Matt Jordan, located at 328 W. Mariposa in Redlands. Shuttle parking pickup service will be available in the parking area located on Halsey (look for the signs). Tickets for the event are $40, and reservations are required. Reservations can be made by calling the symphony office at (909) 748-8018 or by visiting www.RedlandsSymphony.com/Purse.

A residence shows visible damage from flooding, mud and debris following severe winter storms that began Dec. 23, which brought heavy rain and debris flows to mountain and high desert communities across San Bernardino County. This week, the San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors approved recovery-related fee waivers to help eligible property owners repair and rebuild as response and long-term recovery efforts continue.

Photo Caption: Crime in San Bernardino has dropped by 30 percent or more throughout the city. One reason is that there are more officers on the streets. The Police Department’s goal is to have 350 sworn officers. Current full-time staffing is reported at 295 sworn officers and 156 professional staff.
