The Lily Cai Chinese Dance Company, led by choreographer Lily Cai, former principal dancer of the Shanghai Opera, were featured at the 90th Anniversary Season of the Redlands Bowl Summer Music Festival 2013. These first-time performers had the crowd in awe as they performed their last number, the Silk Cascade. With flowing ribbons of color being stretched across the stage, accompanied with colorful lighting and dynamic choreography, the crowd was captivated by the internal beauty and energy of the Lily Cai Dancers telling various stories of the spirit of Dai village girls from Southern China through sound, music, and movement.
First-time attendees of the Redlands Bowl Summer Music Festival Louie and his wife Isela Hernandez explained, “The show was a beautiful and a soothing work of art.”
Families and friends from all over came to gather for this event, sitting and setting up their blankets and picnic baskets at the open arena, which was surrounded by green trees and Redlands’ historic buildings.
Shana Stevers, a Redlands resident who sat with her family, shared, “I have been attending the Redlands Bowl Summer Music Festival since I was five. This has always been a part of my family’s tradition, ever since I can remember. Now I can continue to share this family fun day with my own children. This is a great place to be, especially since the community has been generous in giving donations so that something like this could continue to happen in our community.”
As the night drew to a close, all who had attended left satisfied, ready for the next event that will be held during the Redlands Bowl Summer Music Festival.
