Local Hospital Honors Volunteers

REDLANDS>> Redlands Community Hospital hosted a reception to celebrate its volunteers during National Volunteer Week. The special event honored the many volunteers who give their time and talent in support of the hospital and community.

The ceremony honored volunteers with a number of awards to recognize their achievements and hours of service. The recipients of the Presidential Lifetime Award, created to thank and honor Americans who, by their demonstrated commitment and example, inspire others to engage in volunteer service included: Marilyn Caminiti, John Faulkner and Lindsay Collins. Caminiti has volunteered at the hospital for 13 years and contributed more than 4,600 hours. She has served in surgery waiting room and is the past president of the Redlands Community Hospital Auxiliary Board. Serving in the volunteer office, Faulkner has volunteered for seven years and contributed more than 4,300 hours. Serving in maternal child services, Collins has volunteered for three years and contributed more 288 hours.

The Presidential Lifetime Award is also the only Presidential award that is available to the general public without having to be nominated or judged on criteria. It’s an award that allows citizens to be honored and recognized for service that is important to them.

To date, Redlands Community Hospital has recognized more than 50 volunteers for achieving this lifetime award, adult volunteers serving 4,000 hours of service or high school students reaching 250 hours of service.

“Redlands Community Hospital celebrates the service and passion of our extraordinary volunteers,” said Cherie Towers, Director of Volunteer Services at Redlands Community Hospital.

“Their willingness to give their own time to support the hospital’s patients, visitors, staff and physicians is invaluable.”

In addition, the hospital presented the “Rookie of the Year” award to new volunteers to recognize their achievements since joining the program.  Typically there is only one recipient, but this year two awards were presented.

The first recipient was Rebecca Smith, who supports a number of services at the hospital including: surgery waiting and hospice.

She is passionate about her work and has donated in excess of 500 hours.

The second recipient was high school student Jonathon Shaver, who has worked at the clerical, newspaper & information desk, as well as the emergency department.

“Every year we applaud and celebrate the volunteers’ efforts during National Volunteer Week to recognize their exceptional service to others,” said Tom Niblack, Auxiliary President.  “Their selfless efforts truly make a difference in the lives they touch.”

Redlands Community Hospital is supported by 300 volunteers from high school students to retirees, many who travel a great distance to give their time to assist in providing a more comfortable experience for our patients and their families.
